It’s January and Juli is finishing up the last half of eighth grade. Her year-long journal entries include her comic observations on parents, Catholic school, teachers, mean girls, graduation activities, and a disappointing lack of breast development.
But the overarching concern is Juli’s crush on Max Peterson, the older brother of her neighborhood friend. Everyone thinks Max is too old for Juli, but is that even true? On top of this, Juli’s relationship with her best friend, Jen, is strained when they compete to try and make the freshman cheerleading squad.
Juli eagerly goes after what she wants, and in the process reconsiders everything she thought she knew about love and friendship, and learns timing plays a role in both.
